I was financially compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

I’ll admit it. My son is part of the “heads down” generation. “Heads down” generation? You know what I’m talking about. Kids with their heads down in their electronic devices. And hey, it’s not just our kids. We do it too! I know I am guilty of it.

heads up on the heads down

I recently read an article by Gregg Murset, founder and CEO of My Job Chart, titled “The Demise of Guys? Over My Dead Body.” As a father of 4 boys, he was shocked to learn that boys are crashing and burning. And as a father of 4 boys, he refuses to let that happen to his children.

Did you know that the average young person will spend 10,000 hours gaming by age 21? 10,000 hours! Just think about that. You could earn a bachelor’s degree during half of that time.  10,000 hours wasted on a screen.

When I see it in that context, it’s horrifying. I am right there with Gregg. Over my dead body will I let that happen to my boys.

Now, I do believe that some screen time is good kids but I need to stop the bad habits now. Screen time needs to be earned and shouldn’t just be a given. It will be hard but better to nip it in the bud now than have a teenager who’s glued to his iPhone {or whatever the latest device is}.
