This summer, I am trying to read more so that I show Ethan how important reading is. Reading out loud to us is something that he tends to shy away from. At first, I thought it was because he was struggling. I soon learned that it was because he was being hard on himself. If he struggled with sounding out a word, he would give up.

But that all changed a few weeks ago. We headed to Half Price Books to stock up on some Level 1 readers. We got some really great deals (19 books for $15!) including some Biscuit books. When we got back, I had him sit down with me and read the book. And guess what? He read 99% of the book all by himself. I think he got stuck on about 3 words.

He can totally do it!

Now that we are on a roll with his reading, I made him a Summer Reading List based off the recommendations sent home from school. We are plowing through the list and he is getting better each and every day! By the end of the summer, he will be ready for First Grade.
