Not only does Bob’s Red Mill believe in quality ingredients they also believe in making our world a better place through small acts of kindness. Psychologists have found that baking for others promotes a sense of well-being and benefits the baker as much as, if not more, than the recipient. Maybe that’s why I love baking so much!

One of my family’s favorite? Snickerdoodles! Snickerdoodles are easy to whip up and bake in only 10 minutes. You can make a bunch in a short amount of time making them great to give to friends, family, and neighbors as a holiday treat!

All cookies start with some of the basic ingredients: flour, eggs, butter, sugar. While some doughs are thinner than others, this Snickerdoodle dough will form with a thicker consistency so you can roll them into dough balls.

Once the dough balls are shaped, roll into a cinnamon sugar mixture before placing on a cookie sheet.

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups Bob's Red Mill Organic All Purpose Baking Flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  1. Heat oven to 400ºF.
  2. Mix 1 1/2 cups sugar, the butter, shortening and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  3. Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

Tips for making Snickerdoodles:

  • These rich cinnamon-sugar cookies make a great gift! Place a bag of them in a small gift box along with the recipe.
  • Use a cookie scoop to get the same amount of dough each time. This will help you get perfectly rounded and evenly-sized cookies.
  • Cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes after removing from the oven. Then place on cooling racks.
  • Substitute 1/4 cup egg nog for one eggs.  Gives them an excellent flavor and really brings on the holiday spirit!
  • Reduce the temperature to 375 if you are using a dark nonstick cookie sheet.
