If you are making this cheese sauce as a dip for a crowd, keep it in a small crockpot to keep warm. This cheese will develop a skin on top if not kept warm and stirred frequently.

Every recipe I found called for Land O’ Lakes White American cheese. While I am sure you can use any kind of American cheese, I always use Land O’ Lakes cheese when making this restaurant style queso blanco.

You can easily reheat the leftover cheese sauce in a pan or in a small crockpot. But I doubt there will be any leftovers!

If you like your queso dip spicy, just add more picked jalapenos and diced chili! That is one of the things I love about the queso dip: you can easily customize it to your liking!

You don’t need any special kitchen equipment to make this Restaurant Style Queso Blanco so there’s no excuse not to make it right now!

To make this recipe, you’ll need:

● Small Crockpot

If you are going for the easy way to make this queso dip, you’ll need a small crockpot! By using a small crockpot, you can throw all of your ingredients in and let the crockpot do the work. The crockpot also makes it easy to keep the dip warm all throughout your party.

● Sauce Pan with Lid

If you decide not to use a small crock pot to make your dip, you can use a sauce pan with a lid. Just make sure you keep an eye on your dip and stir a lot! It will create a skin on top if you let it sit unattended.

● Cheese Knife

Yes, you could use a regular sharp knife to cut your cheese but I have found using an actual cheese knife is better! It slices through the cheese without tearing it up!

● Silicone Mixing Spoon

Do not make the mistake of using a wooden spoon with stirring your queso dip! It will stick like crazy. Instead, use a silicon mixing spoon or spatula to get the job done.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 1.25 lb block White American Cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes {every recipe I saw called for Land O'Lakes brand so I went with that as well}
  • 1/4 cup diced green chiles, from a can
  • 2 pickled jalapenos, chopped {If you want it mild, leave these out.}
  • 1 ounce pickled jalapeno juice {same as above}
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • pinch of cumin {optional}

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in pot. Heat on medium, stirring constantly. The mixture will seem watery at first but will come together as it stands. Make sure you keep stirring or it will burn on the bottom.
  2. Serve immediately as a dip with tortilla chips or as a sauce over Nachos.
  3. *Reheat Instructions: Store any leftover cheese dip in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until creamy and hot.
