We are quickly heading into the busy holiday season which means lots of get togethers and meals to plan. While we like to try new things, sometimes you have to take a break and go with your family’s favorites.

One of our holiday traditions is eating warm cinnamon rolls while we open presents on Christmas morning. There’s something about that wonderful aroma filling the house while the kids bounce around, excited to find out what Santa left them.

This year, I am changing things up a bit. While there’s nothing wrong with good ‘ole cinnamon rolls, I am taking two of our favorites and mashing them up: Cinnamon Rolls and French Toast.

And the best part? You can prep this recipe the night before. In fact, it tastes better if you do! But if you forget to prep it Christmas Eve, you can always make it quick in the morning.

Overnight Cinnamon Roll French Toast Bake

Ingredients

  • 2, Pillsbury Original cinnamon rolls, cut into quarters
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1½ tsp. vanilla
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • icing from package

Instructions

  1. In a medium casserole or baking dish, spray with non-stick cooking spray. Cut the frozen cinnamon rolls into quarters, and evenly spread into the bottom of the baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whisk together well, and pour over the cinnamon roll pieces. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, at least 6-8 hours. Rolls will begin to thaw and rise.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove the plastic wrap and bake the French toast for 35-40 minutes or until the rolls are well browned on top. Remove from oven and drizzle with icing from the cinnamon roll package.
