Not only am I sprucing up our living room, I’ve also moved outdoors as well. Fall will be here before we know it which means the pumpkins are coming out! This spring, I made this flower pot stacker for our front steps. I am sad to report that the flowers didn’t do well over the summer. It was just too hot and the sun was beating down on them all day. I’ll have to pick different plants next spring.

But I’ll worry about that next year. Right now, I have pumpkins on the brain!

I have always put out small pumpkins on the steps (usually the ones the kids get on their school field trips to the farm) but we all know what happens when they start to rot. You end up with a stinky mess on your steps. This year, I wanted to do something that wouldn’t rot and that I could use from year to year.

If you aren’t going to use real pumpkins might as well use a faux! I picked up a Styrofoam pumpkin (you could use plastic as well) and a small mum that would fit inside. For just under $10, you can have a faux pumpkin flower planter.

Here’s how.

You will need:

Start by taking the stem off of your pumpkin and tracing your flower pot. Next, cut out the inside of the pumpkin until your flower pot can slip in. I cut mine all they way through for water irrigation. WARNING: If you use a Styrofoam pumpkin like I did, prepare yourself for the HUGE mess it will make. But it’s ok, it vacuums right up!

Slip your flower pot inside and you are done! For less than $10 and in under 10 minutes, you can make this easy pumpkin planter!

Now I just need to decide what to put around it. I was thinking either gourds or hay!
