I'm Possible

Throughout their journey from newborn to adult, children achieve hundreds of milestones. Each one having it’s own importance. Each one no more special than the other. And, we, as parents, cherish each and every one.

From day one, my children have been all about achieving great things. Over achievers? Maybe.

Ethan was born at 35 weeks and was in the NICU for 10 days. His achievements included weaning off a feeding tube and downing 2 ounce bottles like a champ. Each achievement put him one step closer to coming home. And we cheered him on at 5 days, 7 days, and 10 days for each milestone.

When we walked in the NICU and saw his feeding tube removed, I said, “We don’t need no stinkin’ tubes!” If we could have given him a high-five, we would have. Instead, I fought back tears knowing my baby boy would be coming home soon.

Not to be outdone by his big brother, Benny, too, made some achievements while he was in the NICU. We had to be a little more patient with him but we knew he could do it. Benny had hypoglycemia. We went back and forth thinking he had an underlying condition and that he just needed some time to regulate his sugar on his own. We knew he could do it! So we put our trust in him and his tiny, little body.

And he did it.

You always dream about your children doing great things. It’s completely amazing to watch it unfold before your eyes.

When looking back on all of the things that they have accomplished so far, it makes me think about what is in store for them in the future!
